Rikki Tikki Tavi for iPad

This was my first endeavor at iOS Development. I challenged myself to make an interactive book based on the story of Rikki Tikki Tavi from Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (open domain). Within two months I taught myself the Objective-C programming language, and familiarized myself with the iOS development system of Xcode.I hand drew all of the illustrations before priming them in Photoshop, and developed the code for the entire app. The design is entirely my own. I successfully uploaded the app to the Apple app store.

Skills used: Objective-C, Cocoa Touch, Xcode, Adobe Illustrator CS5, Adobe Photoshop CS5, Graphic Design

Jungle Game

It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn't listen.

Jungle Game

Simple, fun, kids love it. Which was the whole point for this project. I hand drew all of the illustrations, then scanned them, and illustrated them with Adobe Illustrator. All of the animation was completed with ActionScript 3.0 [Flash]. The objective is simple: name what animal makes a specific sound. The game will tell you which answer is right, or which answer is wrong.

Skills used: ActionScript 3.0, illustration, Adobe Illustrator CS5

Glencoe Mill Village Historic Map

I was the production manager for this project and also the lead developer. The team consisted of one photographer, two Flash developers (including myself) and a videographer. I gathered photos and historical information via interviews for this map, and then constructed the interactive elements of the map. I also helped the videographer edit the majority of her video content. Users can click on different buildings located on the map to learn about various sections of the town. They can view the floor plan and interior of a renovated home, a building before renovation, and they can watch a brief video detailing the history of the mill town.

Skills used: ActionScript 3.0 [Flash], project management, photography, Adobe Photoshop CS5, photo manipulation, graphic design, Final Cut Pro, Soundbooth.

Information + Graphics = Infographic. In the process of learning about graphic design, I became intrigued about color symbolism in different parts of the world. I chose two vastly different cultures—Japanese and American—and researched color symbolism. There were some expected similarities, and some surprising differences. What better way to show my findings than to use colorful paint strips? Click on a color, and the strips will navigate to the center so users can compare the meaning in two different cultures.

Skills used: ActionScript 3.0 [Flash], research, Adobe lllustrator CS5

Sierra Club

The summer of 2010 I was contacted by the Sierra Club to write a freelancing article for their Comfort Zone section. The article focused on an energy efficient building called the BrightBuilt Barn in Rockport, Maine. I won't give away the entire article, you can view the entire thing on the Sierra Club website. I was very fortunate and thankful for the opportunity to work with the Sierra Club.

In January 2011 I was in Panama working with a non-profit group and had tons of opportunities to take great photos. When I returned to the states, CNN was running an iReport on Panama, so I put up two of my favorite photos for submission. CNN liked them so much they included them in a weekly photo gallery outside the iReport. Out of thousands of photos, two of mine were included in the 13 photo spread. To view the photo gallery, go to CNN's website and view numbers 3 and 10.
